Finding Your Footing in Sweden – Stories of Courage and Connection
How do international spouses build new lives in Sweden? Through personal stories of courage and reinvention, this International Spouse Program event explored what it takes to adapt, grow, and create a meaningful life far from home.
On November 5, participants of the International Spouse Program gathered in Stockholm – both in person and online – for an inspiring session about building a meaningful life in Sweden.
Two program participants, Carolina Ogata and Federica Grosso, shared their personal journeys of adapting to a new country, finding professional direction, and creating a sense of belonging.
Their stories highlighted the strength, resilience, and courage that international spouses bring with them. As one reflection expressed, “Accompanying spouses are superheroes” – for all they give up and all they take on when starting anew in another country.
The discussion encouraged participants to see opportunities, to embrace new experiences, and to actively seek out communities where they can grow and connect.
It was an evening filled with inspiration, practical advice, and heartfelt stories – a reminder that relocation can open doors to growth, confidence, and meaningful connections.
Supporting accompanying spouses
Swedes Worldwide’s International Spouse Program, exclusively available to our main partners, offers career support, networking, and activities to help accompanying partners thrive.
The program provides participants with opportunities to build professional networks, gain new skills, and receive guidance in entering the Swedish job market. Its long-term goal is to help accompanying spouses create a meaningful and fulfilling life in their new country.
