How to take care of your mental well-being as an accompanying spouse
Finding your place in a new country can take time. It’s common to experience stress, loneliness, or moments of uncertainty along the way. To help accompanying spouses care for their mental well-being during this transition, the International Spouse Program has launched a three-part workshop series.
The workshop series is held in partnership with Svea KBT, a psychotherapy practice offering cognitive behavioral therapy.
In the first workshop participants explored common reactions to relocation and cultural adjustment, early signs of stress and emotional overload, strategies for creating healthy routines in a new environment, and where to turn for support in Sweden.
Led by psychology students under supervision of licensed psychologists, the session offered a safe, supportive environment for discussion and reflection.
The remaining sessions in the series focus on coping with loneliness and making connections.
Supporting accompanying spouses
Swedes Worldwide’s International Spouse Program, exclusively available to our main partners, offers career support, networking, and activities to help accompanying partners thrive.
The program provides participants with opportunities to build professional networks, gain new skills, and receive guidance in entering the Swedish job market. Its long-term goal is to help accompanying spouses create a meaningful and fulfilling life in their new country.
