Coping with loneliness in a new country

Loneliness is a common experience when starting over in a new country. It can take time to build a sense of belonging, establish new routines, and create meaningful connections. To address this, Swedes Worldwide’s International Spouse Program hosted the second session in our mental well-being workshop series with Svea KBT.

The workshop is part of a three-session series which started in December and is designed to support accompanying spouses in caring for their mental well-being during the transition to life in Sweden.

In this second workshop, participants explored how loneliness can show up in different ways and how it may be influenced by changes in everyday life, identity, and support networks. The session was led by student psychologists under the supervision of licensed psychologists.

The final workshop in the series will focus on how to make connections.

Swedes Worldwide’s International Spouse Program, exclusively available to our main partners, offers career support, networking, and activities to help accompanying partners thrive.

The program provides participants with opportunities to build professional networks, gain new skills, and receive guidance in entering the Swedish job market. Its long-term goal is to help accompanying spouses create a meaningful and fulfilling life in their new country.
